WSLS: Gillespie stops in Vinton on gubernatorial campaign

VINTON (WSLS 10) – The campaign for Virginia’s next governor is underway.

Republican candidate Ed Gillespie talked about policy and held a fundraiser in Vinton on Wednesday.

He said the economy in the commonwealth and the Roanoke Valley needs to be energized after seeing a growth rate of less than 2 percent during the last five years and losing 69,000 manufacturing jobs in the last decade.

“We’ve got to make it easier for small businesses and entrepreneurs to get businesses going and create jobs and raise take-home pay and help lift people out of poverty and I’m going to put forward policies that do just that,” said Gillespie.

Gillespie said the new Trump administration and Republican leadership in Washington makes him optimistic for the future.

He also says that fewer EPA regulations and more military spending will help improve Virginia’s economy.
