Ed called into “Charlottesville Right Now” to talk with Les Sinclair about the economy, his “Cutting Taxes for ALL Virginians” Plan, why he’s running for governor, and several other topics. Listen to the full interview here:
On the economy: “We’re stuck, and we have been for five straight years. Our economic growth is anemic. We should be first in the nation for economic growth, and we can be with the right policies.”
On his tax plan: “I unveiled an across-the-board ten percent tax rate cut for individual rates in Virginia. Those rates have not been brought down since they were first established in 1972 – 45 years ago. This is the right policy to get Virginia growing again to foster more natural, organic growth and small business formation and small business expansion and entrepreneurship, more start-ups and scale-ups, which is what we need in Virginia for long term job creation and economic growth.”
On the removal of the Lee Statue: “I don’t think they should remove the statue. I don’t think it’s a good use of taxpayer dollars- about $300,000 that I suspect most people in Charlottesville would rather see spent on schools, or police, or roads, and I think City Councilmembers who voted to do that ought to be held accountable and voted out of office. I’m opposed to removing historical statutes in the Commonwealth.”
On being a conservative: “To me that means we understand that we need to protect the freedoms that are enshrined in our Constitution, to stand principles of limited, effective government, to give parents greater control and choices in our children’s education, to allow more Virginians to keep more of their hard-earned tax dollars and spend their income more the way they see fit. It means standing up for the principles of personal liberty and individual freedom. Those are the principles on which my policies are based.”
On his campaign: “I will be a governor for all Virginians. My policies will benefit all Virginians, and I take my campaign to all Virginians. There’s nowhere in the Commonwealth I won’t go to take my message.”
On why he’s running: “I feel called to serve my fellow Virginians. I know I would be an honest, ethical, hardworking, principled, faithful servant leader and one worthy of Virginia.”
