Poll: Gillespie only candidate who can lead Republicans to victory in November

Gillespie ties Northam & Perriello, but leads by 10 percent among independents.

Longtime conservative leader, 2014 U.S. Senate nominee, and 2017 Republican candidate for governor Ed Gillespie is the only Republican candidate who can beat Lieutenant Governor Ralph Northam or Congressman Tom Perriello in November, according to a new general election poll from Christopher Newport University’s Wason Center for Public Policy. Gillespie runs even with both Northam and Perriello in the new poll, but leads among independent voters by 10 points.

“This poll is the clearest sign yet that Ed Gillespie is the only Republican candidate who can unify our Commonwealth and lead Republicans to victory in November,” said Campaign Manager Chris Leavitt. “Voters are rallying to Ed because they know he will be a governor for all Virginians. While Lieutenant Governor Northam and Congressman Perriello continue to divide in their all-out race to the left, Ed will continue to take his optimistic vision and conservative policies to voters, backed up by the ever-growing G Force. Ed will win in June and November.”
