Another Ultra-Liberal New England Senator Weighs in on Virginia’s Governor Race

Liberal Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren has joined Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders to weigh in on the Democrat primary featuring Lieutenant Governor Ralph Northam and Congressman Tom Perriello (aka “Left & Lefter”).

Here’s the Washington Post:

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Ma), a leader of the Democratic party’s progressive wing, endorsed Tom Perriello in the Democratic primary race for Virginia governor on Monday.

Warren gave the nod to Perriello during an interview with The Huffington Post in which she called Perriello, a former one-term congressman from Charlottesville, “an exciting guy.”

“He’s the kind of guy who says, ‘I am going to make change and I’m going to make change not for the richest, not for the most powerful, not for what’s politically expedient. I want to make change for hard-working families,’” Warren said.

Perhaps Senator Elizabeth Warren isn’t familiar with how Perriello is financing his campaign? According to the Richmond Times-Dispatch, “More than half of the $2.2 million that Perriello has raised since declaring in January comes from four donors — three individuals and a foundation that he helped start. Most have New York addresses.”

Among those donations is a six-figure campaign check to Perriello from billionaire George Soros.

More from the Washington Post:

Warren’s embrace follows an endorsement of Perriello earlier this month from Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt), perhaps the main leader of progressive politics in the country right now. Together, the two add a layer of national star power to Perriello’s insurgent campaign., something the campaign hopes to translate into campaign cash, volunteers and, ultimately, votes.

It’s no surprise that the leaders of the liberal left-wing of the Democrat party are interested in this race. Their preferred candidate has proposed nearly a billion dollars in new state spending funded by tax increases.
