Tonight, Lieutenant Governor Ralph Northam and former Congressman Tom Perriello will participate in the third Democratic primary debate. In their campaigns thus far, each of them have demonstrated for Virginians just how detached they are from the hard realities of our economy: anemic economic growth, stagnant wages, and weakening economic competitiveness.
Last month, S&P Global Ratings downgraded the outlook on Virginia’s “general obligation (GO), appropriation-backed, and moral obligation debt” from stable to negative. Just this week, Chief Executive Magazine released of its “2017 Best & Worst States for Business” rankings, in which it demoted Virginia’s standing from #12 to #15. For three years in a row now, more people have moved out of Virginia than into our Commonwealth.
Will Ralph Northam and Tom Perriello finally acknowledge that Virginia’s next governor must do more to grow the economy?
Ed Gillespie knows we have to start doing things the right way to get better results. That’s why Ed is putting forward conservative policies that will foster a dynamic economy, create good paying jobs for all Virginians and restore the Commonwealth’s rightful place as one of the best states in the country for business.
