29 Sheriffs and 22 Commonwealth’s Attorneys Support Gillespie for Governor
Longtime conservative leader, 2014 U.S. Senate candidate, and 2017 Republican candidate for governor Ed Gillespie earned the endorsement Friday of more than 29 sheriffs and 22 Commonwealth’s Attorneys. The endorsements come from all across the Commonwealth and add to Gillespie’s growing momentum as he heads into the Republican nomination contest this June.
“These dedicated public servants are the foundation of safe communities. I am proud to announce their support today,” said Gillespie. “As governor, I’ll work with them to make our Commonwealth safer for all Virginians.”
“Northern Virginia continues to face new, dynamic threats to our public safety,” said Loudoun County Sheriff Mike Chapman. “Virginians deserve a governor who will make public safety a top priority. Ed Gillespie has demonstrated he understands that and will be a strong partner for law enforcement officers throughout the Commonwealth.”
Shenandoah County Sheriff Tim Carter commented, “As Sheriff, I serve the people of Shenandoah County, and my top priority is their safety. Virginia’s next governor must share the same approach to public service and must work with law enforcement officers at every level to keep Virginians safe. I know that Ed Gillespie will be that leader.”
“Ed Gillespie is a proven leader, who understands the importance of listening and working with public safety officials,” said Chesapeake City Commonwealth’s Attorney Nancy Parr. “He will serve all Virginians selflessly, and for that, he has my unwavering support.”
York County-Poquoson Sheriff Danny Diggs said, “Ed Gillespie is the only candidate who will provide law enforcement with the vital resources they need to keep our communities safe. He is the best candidate for governor.”
“Rockingham County and the entire Commonwealth of Virginia have suffered from the devastating impacts of a statewide opioid epidemic,” said Rockingham County Commonwealth’s Attorney Marsha Garst. “Ed Gillespie will approach this public health crisis with compassion, empathy, and action by ensuring that our local public safety officials have the tools and resources they need to keep our communities safe. I am proud to support his campaign for governor.”
Virginia Beach City Commonwealth’s Attorney Colin Stolle said, “Due in large part to a strong partnership between Virginia Beach law enforcement, the community, and Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney, Virginia Beach is seeing some of its lowest crime rates in a long time. In order to continue that success, we need a partner in the governor’s office like Ed Gillespie, who has demonstrated his commitment to public safety. I look forward to working with him as Virginia’s next governor.”
“I’ve served the people of Lee County as their sheriff for over 20 years, and I know the critical role governors play in keeping our communities safe,” said Lee County Sheriff Gary Parsons. “Ed Gillespie has demonstrated his priority in putting the safety and security of Virginians first, and I am proud to support him in his campaign.”
