The June 13 Republican Primary is almost upon us – which means it is more important than ever to encourage our friends and family to get to the polls to vote for Ed Gillespie to be our Republican nominee for Governor!
There are several ways to vote for Ed in this critical election – but you must be registered to vote. Not sure if you’re registered? Find out on the State Board of Elections voter information page.
Not registered? Unfortunately the voter registration deadline has passed and you cannot vote in the June 13 Primary. Make sure you register at least 22 days prior to the November 7 General Election to ensure you can vote then!
Now, how do you actually vote? There are a few ways.
Vote in Person
Go to your voting precinct between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m on June 13. to cast your vote in person for Ed! If you aren’t sure where to go to vote, use the State Board of Elections Voting Precinct Lookup tool
IMPORTANT: You must bring a form of valid photo identification with you to vote in the Commonwealth of Virginia. A list of acceptable forms of ID can be found here. If you forget to bring your photo ID, you will be required to vote a provisional ballot and will have until noon on the Friday following the election to deliver a copy of identification to their locality’s electoral board in order for their provisional ballot to be counted.
After showing your ID to the voting officials – request a ballot to vote in the Republican Primary. If your precinct votes by paper ballot, you will be handed a paper ballot. If your precinct uses electronic voting machines, you should see Republican candidates on your screen. If you for some reason receive or see Democratic candidates on your ballot – immediately return to the election officials to correct the issue.
Mark your ballot for Ed Gillespie for Governor and your other Republican candidate of choice for Lieutenant Governor and any local races!
Submit your ballot into the ballot box / submit your selections on the touchscreen voting machine and return to your day – maybe call a few friends to encourage them to vote as well!
Vote Absentee by Mail
Will you be on vacation on election day? Do you work outside of your city/county of residence and worry you won’t make it back before the polls close? You can choose to apply to vote for Ed via absentee ballot. You must have an approved reason to vote absentee – that list can be found here.
To request an absentee ballot by mail, click here. The deadline to request an absentee ballot to be mailed to you is quickly approaching – the application must be submitted by 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 6.
You may mail the application back to your registrar, or the completed and signed application can also be transmitted electronically by fax or as scanned attachment to an email. Your local registrar will review your application and mail you a ballot to fill out and mail back to officially vote for Ed!
Vote Absentee Early
You can also swing by your local registrar’s office to request an absentee ballot in person. The deadline to vote in-person by absentee ballot is is 5:00 p.m. Saturday, June 10. To find your local registrar’s office, click here.
Absentee Ballots must be received by your local registrar no later than 7:00 p.m. on June 13 – when polls officially close. You may bring your unopened or completed absentee ballot to your polling place on Tuesday June13 if you have yet to submit it.
