Over the final few weeks of the primary race, Ed’s supporters have written letters to the editors of newspapers across the Commonwealth, making clear why they’ll be voting for Ed Gillespie on Tuesday, June 13.
Here are some highlights:
“Ed’s policy-focused agenda is a breath of fresh air in today’s political climate. It will deliver real results for my generation and help Virginia become competitive in today’s modern economy. This fall, we have the opportunity to elect a candidate who believes that Virginians deserve better than four more years of failed policies. I hope you’ll join me in voting for Ed Gillespie on June 13.”
- Liz Minneman, Arlington Connection, 06.06.17
“On June 13, Virginians across the commonwealth will elect candidates for governor. With that comes the opportunity, and responsibility, to advance leaders who understand the importance of jumpstarting our economy. For that reason, I encourage to vote for Ed Gillespie in the Republican primary. He knows that government doesn’t create jobs — small businesses do. He has put forth plans to get government out of the way and help get Virginia’s economy growing again.”
- Former Delegate Don Merricks, Danville Register & Bee, 06.06.17
“Mr. Gillespie continues to put forward the policies needed to continue to create new jobs, raise take-home pay and get Virginia growing again. Ed Gillespie is the best gubernatorial candidate in the June 13 primary. Join me in supporting him in June and again in the General Election on November 7.”
- Chad Green, York County Board of Supervisors, Daily Press, 06.03.17
“Ed’s vision for our economy will create jobs and help our economy grow. It’s time for Virginia to be at the top of economic growth and Ed can help us get there. With Ed as governor, our region will get moving again. That’s why I am supporting Ed in the primary June 13, and hope you will join me.”
- Brenda Campbell, Martinsville Bulletin, 06.08.17
“Terry McAuliffe and the Democrats have done quite a number on Virginia. We rank in the bottom 10 states in economic growth. The resources we need to work are locked up by red tape and government policies. We need some serious change! Ed Gillespie would start by leaving 10 percent of income tax where it was earned. That would give a family of four $1,300 each. Among other things, this would create 53,000 private jobs—above current projections. Resources work best when allocated by those who created them.
- Bill Scherr, Culpeper Star Exponent, 06.06.17
“Ed knows Virginia should be one of the top states for economic growth. He’s already putting forward policies to spur job creation and make it easier for all Virginians to land good-paying jobs. He’s released a detailed plan to cut the individual income tax rate by 10 percent across-the-board and to eliminate outdated regulations and to remove barriers to entry. I am a firm believer in Ed’s policies. I trust Ed will be a phenomenal governor for Southside and all of Virginia, and I know he’ll get our economy growing again.”
- Pat Barksdale, Gazette Virginian, 06.07.17
“Most importantly, Gillespie has a solid, well thought-out conservative agenda that will help steer the commonwealth back on the right course. He will reform Virginia’s archaic tax system and provide a 10 percent across-the-board reduction. This will put more money in our pockets and foster much needed economic development throughout the state. Ed will streamline state government and reduce regulatory burdens hindering job growth and opportunities. He will fight for our individual rights and freedoms and will stand up to special interests in Richmond. Ed will also ensure all of Virginia’s children get a solid education and our colleges focus on education rather than more buildings. Gillespie is a GOP visionary and a proven leader who knows how to work with people and get the job done.”
- Steven Apicella, Free Lance Star, 06.03.17
“If you choose to vote in the Republican Party primary, I ask you to join me in voting for Ed Gillespie for governor. Ed is the only candidate for governor from either party who has a plan that will get Virginia’s economy back on track and rolling again. His plan will reduce taxes for all Virginia families, cut unneeded and burdensome regulations, and rein in spending on unnecessary and duplicative government programs. Ed also supports strengthening our public schools, colleges, and universities to meet the needs of educating the 21st century workforce. Ed is a true Virginia conservative who is pro-life and pro-2nd Amendment.”
- Joe Guthrie, Roanoke Times, 06.08.17
“Being self-employed, I understand the difficulties small businesses struggle with due to government regulations. Virginia’s economic growth rate was at two percent last year. This is just unacceptable as other states have growth rates and are opening up new jobs while Virginia lags behinds. Virginia’s next governor has to be focused on fixing this problem. Ed is a person that we can trust to address the issue and depend on to get the job done. He recognizes that the government needs to get out of the way so that the private sector can grow and create jobs. His policies are formulated to expand the job market and support businesses in the state.”
- Jane Ladd, New Kent Charles City Chronicle, 06.01.17
“Our state government will be held to a higher standard under Ed’s leadership. His pledge is to all Virginians. I know when I vote for Ed, he will follow through on his commitment to Virginians as the 73rd Governor of the Commonwealth. On June 13th, I hope you will join me in voting for Ed Gillespie.”
