Gillespie Presents Clear Contrast With Lieutenant Governor on Taxes, Sanctuary Cities, Virginia’s History, Public Safety
MCLEAN, VA – At the Northern Virginia Chamber Debate, 2017 Republican gubernatorial nominee Ed Gillespie laid out his positive vision for the Commmonwealth, stressing, “The reason I’m seeking the governorship is I know we can do better.”
On issue after issue Ed made clear the sharp differences in policy between himself and his Democratic opponent:
- Taxes: Gillespie made clear he will cut taxes for Virginians, while the Lieutenant Governor continued to oppose tax relief
- Sanctuary Cities: Gillespie pledged to never allow their creation in the Commonwealth, while Northam defended his vote to allow them, and failed to grasp how important it is to Virginians to keep our communities safe by deporting violent criminals
- Virginia’s History: Ed called for keeping Virginia’s statues up, and using taxpayer dollars to build schools and grow our economy, while also adding to our historical memory by building new statues to groundbreaking Virginians like Booker T. Washington and Governor Doug Wilder
- Energy: Ed was clear in his support for natural gas pipelines that are crucial to our economic future, and backed by bipartisan leaders including Governor Terry McAuliffe, while Ralph Northam continued to bob and weave and fail to give a direct answer on where he stands
