News & Advance: GOP governor hopeful Ed Gillespie’s PAC to report more than $1 million in cash on hand

Ed Gillespie’s PAC is expected to report having more than $1 million on hand as of June 30, putting the former Republican National Committee chairman well ahead of where the last two GOP nominees for governor were at similar points in the Virginia election cycle.

Gillespie’s Lets Grow, Virginia! PAC will announce today that it raised $585,516 in the second quarter of 2016, putting total fundraising for the 2017 election at roughly $1.3 million since the PAC’s creation eight months ago.

Former attorney general Ken Cuccinelli reported having $627,337 on hand at this point in 2012, while former Gov. Bob McDonnell reported $684,184 in 2008, according to Gillespie’s PAC.

“These numbers are further evidence that Ed Gillespie is building the kind of serious and strong operation necessary for a Republican to win next year’s gubernatorial race,” Chris Leavitt, the PAC’s executive director, said in a written statement.
