Gillespie beats Northam and Perriello in 2017 head-to-head among all registered voters
A new poll from Mason-Dixon Polling and Research shows Republican Ed Gillespie leading the 2017 governor’s race, beating both Democratic candidates Ralph Northam and Tom Perriello in head-to-head matchups. Gillespie beats Northam 44 to 41 and Perriello 45 to 36 among registered voters, and among independent voters. Gillespie also has the highest name ID of any candidate in the race and the best favorability ratings among Republican primary voters. The poll of registered voters was conducted January 5 to January 10.
“This is the second straight public poll to show that Ed Gillespie is the best candidate to unify the Republican Party in June and the Commonwealth in November. Ed’s positive vision, commitment to putting forward substantive policies, and campaign to engage all Virginians is resonating,” said Gillespie Campaign Manager Chris Leavitt. “Ed leads even though this is a poll of registered voters, not likely voters, and the party registration split is plus seven for Democrats. This poll is one more clear sign of the strength of our campaign.”
