A new poll from Quinnipiac University shows longtime conservative leader Ed Gillespie with a three-to-one lead in the 2017 Republican primary for Governor. Gillespie earns 24 percent of the vote, followed by Corey Stewart at seven percent, Frank Wagner at five percent and Denver Riggleman at two percent. Gillespie is the only Republican candidate that is competitive with Democrats in a general election, and Gillespie beats both Northam and Perriello among independent voters. This is the second straight public poll to show Gillespie with a three-to-one lead.
“While Ralph Northam and Tom Perriello try to one-up each other to impress the left-wing of their party, Ed Gillespie is setting the tone and building a campaign that can unite all Virginians,” said Campaign Manager Chris Leavitt. “This poll shows Ed beating both Perriello and Lt. Governor Northam among independent voters, and proves that Ed is the best candidate to both unify our Party and win the general election in November.”
