Lieutenant Governor Ralph Northam and Congressman Tom Perriello (aka “Left & Lefter”) are in a race to see who can spend more of your money as they campaign for the Democrat nomination.
Liberal Congressman Tom Perriello has big plans for how he wants to spend your money:
“Pricy campaign promises added up fast in this year’s governor’s race, particularly for Democratic hopeful Tom Perriello, whose campaign estimates three proposals to cost nearly $900 million.” (“Lofty prices for Perriello’s bold campaign promises,” Daily Press)
That hefty price tag includes the cost of “free” community college. But Congressman Perriello says he’ll release a plan to pay for it: Tax increases
One expert says Perriello “has been more ambitious on the spending side than even Terry McAuliffe was, and McAuliffe was very ambitious.”
And the Perriello campaign isn’t being honest with their math:
“The Perriello campaign figures free community college for all Virginians would cost less than $350 million a year, in addition to what the state spends now.
The estimate assumes a 15 percent enrollment increase.
The campaign is working off different revenue figures, though, than the Virginia Community College System provided to the Daily Press, which put annual in-state tuition paid now at $451 million.”
The Daily Press says it estimates more than “$1 billion in new spending.”
Ed Gillespie’s plan to cut taxes 10% across the board for all Virginians would put nearly $1,300 back in the pocket of the average Virginia family each year while making sure commitments to education, health care, transportation and public safety are maintained.
For Virginians, the difference is clear: Ed Gillespie has a plan to cut tax rates for the first time since 1972 while fully-funding our priorities and the liberals running for governor will spend more money and raise your taxes.
