Virginia Police Benevolent Association Endorses Ed Gillespie for Governor

The Virginia Police Benevolent Association (VAPBA) today endorsed Republican gubernatorial nominee Ed Gillespie in the 2017 Virginia governor’s race. The announcement reflects Gillespie’s unwavering commitment to improving public safety in the Commonwealth and his strong support for Virginia’s brave and selfless law enforcement officers.

Speaking about the endorsement, Ed Gillespie said, “Dedicated public servants are the foundation of safe communities, and I am humbled by the Virginia Police Benevolent Association’s support. Providing for public safety is an essential responsibility of government, and one that must be addressed with the utmost seriousness. As governor, I’ll work with our law enforcement officers to make our Commonwealth safer for all Virginians.”

“Ed Gillespie is a proven leader, who will provide police officers with the vital resources we need to keep our communities safe,” said VAPBA Division President Joseph Woloszyn. “He has already outlined detailed policies to reform the mental health system, combat the opioid epidemic, eradicate gangs, ban sanctuary cities, reinstate Project Exile, and increase law enforcement pay. He has a clear vision for Virginia and the blueprint to get us there. The VAPBA is proud to endorse Ed Gillespie, and we look forward to working with him as the next governor of Virginia.”

Last month, Gillespie released Job One: Keeping Virginia Safe, his plan to combat gangs, reform the system and reward those who serve and protect. He also announced his Mental Health, Addiction, and Recovery Agenda to improve Virginia’s behavioral health system and address all facets of the opioid and heroin addiction crisis, including prevention, intervention, treatment and recovery.

The VAPBA is a professional law enforcement organization that has been serving its membership for over 20 years. A nonpartisan organization, it serves as the voice of law enforcement officers across Virginia.
