Former Senator John Warner today endorsed Republican gubernatorial nominee Ed Gillespie in the 2017 Virginia governor’s race. Former Senator Warner has a record of supporting candidates in both parties, including most recently Mark Warner, Gillespie’s opponent in the 2014 Senate race, and Hillary Clinton in the 2016 Presidential election.
Speaking about the endorsement, Former Senator John Warner said, “I’ve served in office with ten governors of Virginia, and I know what makes an effective one. I strongly support Ed Gillespie for governor in this election because I know he has the character, integrity, experience and ideas to be a strong leader for our great Commonwealth.”
Ed Gillespie said of the announcement, “John Warner is one of the most well respected and revered leaders in Virginia history.
