Middlesex County Sheriff Bushey Pulls Support From Northam, Endorses Gillespie for Governor

Gillespie Adds To His Support From Majority of Virginia’s Sheriffs

2017 Republican gubernatorial nominee Ed Gillespie today announced he has earned the  endorsement of Middlesex County Sheriff David Bushey, who previously endorsed Lieutenant Governor Ralph Northam. The endorsement adds to Gillespie’s growing support across the public safety community, including a majority of Virginia’s sheriffs. He also recently earned the endorsement of the Virginia Police Benevolent Association.

“I am honored to have the support of Sheriff Bushey and a majority of Virginia’s sheriffs, and I am grateful for our law enforcement officers who sacrifice each day to keep us safe,” Gillespie said. “As governor, I’ll work with all of our dedicated public servants to make our Commonwealth safer for all Virginians.”

Sheriff Bushey said of the endorsement, “I believe it to be my duty as a law enforcement officer, and a Virginian, to support the candidate who I know will keep our Commonwealth safe. The contrast between Ed Gillespie and Lieutenant Governor Ralph Northam has never been more clear.  Ed Gillespie has put forward detailed policy proposals to eradicate gang violence, improve cybersecurity, ban sanctuary cities, and combat the opioid and heroin epidemic. Ed Gillespie is the only candidate who will keep Virginians safe.”

Bushey is the 64th sheriff to endorse Gillespie. Find a full list of endorsements HERE.

In July, Gillespie released Job One: Keeping Virginia Safe, his plan to combat gangs, reinstate Project Exile and reward those who serve and protect. As governor, Gillespie will designate the Attorney General to Serve as the Commonwealth’s Anti-Gang Chief, secure funding for the Northern Virginia Regional Gang Task Force, ban Sanctuary Cities in Virginia, expand the “Youthful Offender Program” at the Virginia Department of Corrections, ensure the continuation of school resource officers (SROs) in schools, pursue funding of the Witness Protection Programs in violent gang activity, establish Gang Prevention Programming at Department of Education, and develop Alternative Educational Opportunities for Known Gang Members.
