2017 Republican gubernatorial nominee Ed Gillespie today released the following statement on the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s (FERC) approval of the Atlantic Coast and Mountain Valley Pipelines:
“The Atlantic Coast and Mountain Valley Pipelines will provide critically important infrastructure to serve Virginia’s growing energy needs, and I am glad FERC approved them. Access to affordable, reliable natural gas will create good-paying jobs and help Virginia attract capital investment important to local and regional economic development. These pipelines will also help ensure Virginia consumers have reliable, affordable domestic energy. The Atlantic Coast and Mountain Valley Pipelines will result in significant, positive economic activity for Virginia, and as governor, I will work with relevant state and federal agencies to ensure they are built in an environmentally responsible manner while also working to mitigate the impact on property owners. I urge Ralph Northam to now join me in supporting them.”
The Atlantic Coast Pipeline will provide access to affordable, reliable natural gas. The project will create as many as 8,800 jobs during construction and 1,300 full-time jobs in the Commonwealth as a result of lower energy costs. In April, Gillespie submitted comment to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission in support of the Atlantic Coast Pipeline. Read the full letter HERE.
The Mountain Valley Pipeline will add more than 4,400 jobs to Virginia’s economy and with an estimated, average employee labor income of $56,200.
