This weekend Lieutenant Governor Ralph Northam and Congressman Tom Perriello will square off on the debate stage for the first time, but don’t expect much difference between “Left & Lefter.”
As the Washington Post reports, “The two candidates are strikingly similar in their policy positions, so for Democratic primary voters, the deciding factors may be style and background.”
So while Tom Perriello may be making waves with big name endorsements from the far left wing of the Democrat party, don’t be fooled into thinking there’s any daylight between him and Ralph Northam when it comes to what matters.
Northam and Perriello only disagree on one issue and the Post notes
“That’s about as far apart as they get on any issue, which has delighted a Republican opposition sees the Democratic primary tacking farther and farther to the left.
“It’s just different shades of gray,” said political analyst Geoffrey Skelley of the University of Virginia Center for Politics, who then corrected himself: “Or different shades of blue, there you go.”
Fortunately, voters will have a real choice in November between Ed Gillespie plans for cutting taxes, raising take-home pay, and getting Virginians back to work and the tired vision of either Ralph Northam or Tom Perriello.
